ABOUT US
GT7 Football Academy is a England Football Accredited youth academy for keen footballers between the ages 4-18 years old, who will receive weekly training sessions hosted by UEFA qualified coaches as well as organised matches throughout the football season.
Participants are still eligible to play for their local teams and the GT7 programme will, where possible, be organised so they don't clash with local fixtures.
All training sessions are held at Kendal Rugby Club on their full size floodlit 3G pitches in Kendal.

LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB
Founded in 2021, the GT7 Ladies Football Club started its first season in the Lancashire FA Women’s County League.
As the only ladies football team in the local area, GT7 founded this football club as a pathway through from the GT7 Girls Football Academy.

GARRY THOMPSON
Garry is UEFA B qualified and is currently working towards his UEFA A licence in football coaching. 'Thommo' is a Cumbrian lad who played his junior football for Wattsfield in Kendal before going on to make over 700 senior appearances for clubs such as Scunthorpe, Bradford, Notts County and Wycombe Wanderers, playing at Wembley 5 times in games such as the League cup and playoff finals.
The experienced winger resigned for his first professional club Morecambe FC in the summer of 2017, where he played a crucial role in the Shrimps’ promotion to the football league back in 2007.
RYAN ROBINSON
Ryan grew up in Tebay and the first team he played for was Kirkby Stephen u10’s. He then attended secondary school in Kendal and joined Wattsfield United. Shortly after joining he was asked to train at Blackburn Rovers. He went on to attend the Academy at Rovers where he played for 3 years and went on to play for them at a professional level for 2 further years.
Teams Ryan has played for include – Morecambe, Southport, Forest Green, Bath City, Telford United, Northwich, ending his professional career at Kendal Town.
As well as coaching at the Academy, Ryan currently manages Wattsfield u10’s.
IAN ROSS (ROCCO)
‘Rocco’ started his playing journey aged 10 with the local team Ibis, where he played until he was 16. At 18 he started playing rugby for Kendal where he played over 200 games, as well as playing in the first team in the national leagues.
Rocco has qualifications as a community sports leader and higher sports leader and is also a qualified football referee, councilor and an FA licensed coach.
He is also assistant coach to Ryan Robinson at Wattsfield.
DANIEL POSTLETHWAITE
Dan who currently works as a Personal Trainer & also as a Swimming Coach at Piranha’s Swim School, played football for both Wattsfield & Kendal United at junior level as well as representing Cumbria at county level. He went on to play for Kendal United and Ibis at senior level.
Dan also has a Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching and is FA UEFA C qualified.
ALAN ROBINSON
Alan played junior football for Staveley United from U12-U16. At 15/16 he had trials at Preston North End.
After Junior football he played for Netherfield U18’s and Westmorland U18s and also went on to play in the senior Staveley United team.
Alan’s passion is to develop children’s interest in football by making the sessions fun and engaging.
Alan’s mantra is – Be brave; get on the ball and try to influence every match you play in.
MAYA SCHOFIELD
Maya is an FA Level 1 qualified coach and also holds qualifications in Community and Higher Sports Leadership. She will also soon be starting to study towards a degree in Sport and Exercise Science.
A former GT7 Girls Football Academy player, she currently plays as a winger and full back for Bradford City in the FA Women’s national League and regularly trains with GT7 Ladies FC.
Maya started playing football at the age of 7, playing for Milnthorpe, Westmorland County, Lancaster Giants and Preston North End at junior level.
In open age football she previously played as a striker and winger for Preston North End and Morecambe Ladies 1st team. She has also trialed at Leeds United.

SHAUN GARDNER
UEFA B qualified coach Shaun has played over 400 semi-professionals games at clubs such as Bradford Park Avenue, AFC Liverpool, Kendal Town and Penrith AFC.
Shaun set up his own successful coaching business (No.7 Coaching) around 9 years ago, going into schools providing specialist PE lessons and after school clubs. The former Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers trialist has also had coaching and managerial experience in the men's game at Bradford, Kendal Town and Penrith, as well as coaching at the CONIFA World Cup in 2018, which took place in London.
BEN FERGUSON
Ben is an FA Level 2 qualified coach and has a National Diploma in Sport.
He currently works on behalf of No.7 Coaching providing specialist PE and after school clubs to local primary schools.
Ben has both played and managed grass roots junior and senior football, as well as playing for Bolton Wanderers Academy as a youth.
ALAN FAWCETT
Alan has been a youth coach for 12 years. He started with Under 5’s and has managed all youth age groups. He currently manages Wattsfield U16’s.
He started playing in the Kent Valley League at 10 years old and progressed to playing for Cumbria Schools then to Netherfield Football Club at 16 years old.
Alan is passionate about the transition from youth football to senior football and working along side local clubs to achieve a pathway for playing for U18’s.
LUCY POTTER
Lucy currently works as a sports coach, going into primary schools in the Eden Valley to deliver PE and after school clubs.
Football is a passion of Lucy’s and played for a short time at Penrith Football Club. She also plays hockey for Kirkby Stephen Hockey Club.
Outside of sport, Lucy is also a keen volunteer and fundraiser for Ankoma Outreach. Ankoma is a small village in Ghana which Lucy last visited in the summer of last year. She is currently planning her next trip.
STUART PARKIN
Stuart started his football journey at 10 years old with Ibis Junior Football Club, moving to Wattsield as a goal keeper.
He then went into senior football representing Lancaster and Morecambe College and Morecambe FC Reserves whilst studying for a diploma in sports science.
Stuart has played in many of the local Kendal teams but spent 5 years with Kendal Town Reserves.
He is now assistant manager of Ibis JFC’s under 9s and manager of their under 7s.
To Stu, football coaching is much more than teaching football skills. He is interested in developing children to be more resilient and helping them to develop as individuals through football.
GT7 Academy have an online shop where bespoke training wear can be purchased.
Macron branded rain jackets, half-zip tops, t-shirts, training trousers, shorts and much more are available complete with GT7 embroidery.
